West Coast Conference Watch: Pacific Tigers

The Pacific Tigers are making the most of their non-conference schedule, posting a 7-1 record. The Tigers recently defeated the Utah State Aggies on the road, which is perhaps their biggest win this season. Prior to the victory, they defeated the likes of Fresno State and Nevada which are respectively decent for the resume come March. The only defeat comes at the hands of the 15th ranked Oregon Ducks, in which the Tigers actually were leading at halftime by 7 points.

The Tigers are led by a consistent scoring attack from Sama Taku  (12.8 ppg), Tony Gill (12.5 ppg), Andrew Bock (12.5), and Ross Rivera (11.9). Having four different players that can score has been a strong point thus far for the Tigers. However, the lack of size could presents problems down the road…

For now though, the Tigers are looking sharp and currently are riding a three game winning streak. Next up, on December 14th, the Tigers will look for their eight win of the season against 2-6 Menlo College, a division III basketball team. Looking down the road though, the West Coast Conference will be the proving grounds for the Tigers, as the WCC features several solid teams such as the Gonzaga Bulldogs, St. Mary’s Gaels, Brigham Young Cougars, and even the San Diego Toreros can be thrown into the mix. Come December 30th, conference play begins for the Tigers against the St. Mary’s Gaels, and hopefully the loss to the Oregon Ducks provided lessons for the Tigers because the Gaels will be another tough test…
