The Ohio Valley conference tournament has begun, with the first round completed. The #5 Morehead St. Eagles defeated #8 SE Missouri St. Redhawks, while the #3 Belmont Bruins took out #6 Eastern Illinois Panthers. Neither of those teams however do I think will win the Ohio Valley conference tournament, as I think the Murray St. Racers are just too dominant. Finally ranked in the AP’s top 25, the Racers are a perfect 16-0 in conference and haven’t lost since November 29th. The stars have aligned for the Racers this season and I don’t see any team really challenging them. Of course the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, Belmont Bruins and UT-Martin Skyhawks are all good in their own right, but the only one I can see giving them a run for their money is the Skyhawks. They have lost to them by a total of 9 points in their two contests and the tournament is being held in Nashville, giving them a possible home crowd advantage.
The Racers have four players in double figures and have a stud in Cameron Payne who averages 20.2 points per game. They average 78.8 points per game, 36.9 rebounds per game, 15.6 assists per game and shoot at a clip of .483%. I mean, statistically they are dominant and are a team that could very well be a Cinderella in the NCAA tournament. They score, distribute, rebound and take good shots. What more can ask for? Pardon my excitement, but I think the Racers are a diamond in the rough and I can’t wait for them to possibly shock the world.
