Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Prediction

Yet another conference that’s fairly competitive, with the William & Mary Tribe, Northeastern Huskies, UNC Wilmington Seahawks and James Madison Dukes all tied with a 12-6 conference record. The tiebreaker seeded the Tribe as #1, Huskies as #2, Seahawks as #3 and the Dukes as #4. All four of these teams however are very vulnerable. For example, the #1 Tribe have lost to the #7 Drexel Dragons, #8 Elon Phoenix, #10 Charleston Cougars and two times to the #6 Delaware Blue Hens. Obviously this tournament is fair game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a team like the Delaware Blue Hens win it. It would certainly be a nice surprise for a team that headed into conference play with a 1-10 record.

Anyways, I’m siding with the Northeastern Huskies to win the tournament. The William & Mary Tribe are too inconsistent and were just defeated at home to mediocre Drexel Dragons. The UNC Wilmington Seahawks started out conference play 7-2, only to trade wins and losses to finish 12-6. The James Madison Dukes have only beaten the bottom half of the conference, failing to beat the Tribe, Seahawks or Huskies once. So, it’s tough to expect them to suddenly rise up and beat the top dogs come time. The Huskies have their own issues too, starting conference play at 6-1 and like the Seahawks, traded wins and losses before finishing 12-6. The reason I like the Huskies though, is that they have nice mixture seniors and juniors. They have four double digit scorers, great athleticism, can distribute the ball, are 20th in the nation in field goal percentage at .481% and at the charity stripe shoot .721%. I believe they have the right combination to take this tournament and that’s why my pick is the Northeastern Huskies.
