Southern Conference Tournament Prediction

The Southern Conference tournament begins today with a pair of matchups between the #8 UNC-Greensboro Spartans vs. #9 Samford Bulldogs, winner to face the #1 Wofford Terriers and #7 The Citadel Bulldogs vs. #10 Furman Paladins, winner plays the #2 Chattanooga Mocs. Much like the Missouri Valley conference, the Southern conference was dominated by two teams, of course not nationally ranked teams. But, the Wofford Terriers and Chattanooga Mocs are no pushovers and I actually think highly of the Terriers. I’m a little surprised they haven’t even received a vote in the AP’s rankings because they’ve certainly done enough to garner at least one vote.

Anyways, as you probably can sense, I’m going with the Wofford Terriers to win the Southern Conference tournament. If they win too, I’d expect them to be #12 seed or better in the NCAA tournament, as well be a player to formulate some upsets. The Terriers have had an excellent non-conference schedule and not necessarily record wise, but more so of whom they played. They have tested themselves, but lost to the Duke Blue Devils, West Virginia Mountaineers and Stanford Cardinals. But, they beat the Iona Gaels, Sam Houston St. Bearkats and definitely their biggest win came on the road against the North Carolina st. Wolfpack, a team that beat up the Duke Blue Devils on their home court. With that said, the Terriers have a nice route to win this tournament and the best chance in my opinion. They have had their stumbles this season, but have been a far more consistent team than anyone in the tournament. I also really like that they have ton of players that contribute everywhere. So, watch out for them if they do punk their ticket in the dance.
