Northeast Conference Tournament Predictions

With only four teams left, I have a 25% chance of predicting this one right. The quarterfinals were completed on March 4th with the #1 St. Francis (NY) Terriers, #5 St. Francis (PA) Red Flashes, #3 Bryant Bulldogs and #2 Robert Morris all advancing. The only hiccup if you will, was the #5 Red Flashes defeating the #4 Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers. The Red Flashes will have to pull an even bigger upset though, as they face the #1 Terriers. This would mark their third game, with the Terriers taking both contests. I’ve said it in the past, the third game is always the toughest given the familiarity of the team. The other semifinal is the #3 Bryant Bulldogs at the #2 Robert Morris Colonials. It took the Bulldogs a buzzer beater three to tie at the end of regulation as well two overtimes to get to this point, which is what March is all about.

The team that’s winning the Northeast tournament is going to be the #1 St. Francis Terriers who have been the far more consistent team in this conference with an impressive 15-3 record. The only losses came to the top teams in the division, so there’s no shame. I also like the fact that their a relatively hot team going into this, winning the last 19 out of 22 games. Led by Jalen Cannon, the Terriers rank 16th in the nation is rebounding and the funny thing is that they really don’t have the “size”. The tallest player on the team is 6’7, so it just goes to show how good these guys box out and how physical they are. They are an experienced team in terms of juniors and sophomores and are looking to go dancing for the programs first time. Look for the Terriers to be the Northeast conference champions.
