Summit League Tournament Prediction

Already underway is the Summit League tournament and I’m going to make this one brief. The two major players in this tournament are the South Dakota St. Jackrabbits and the North Dakota St. Bison. Since 2009, both teams have won the tournament twice, with Oakland (moved to the Horizon league) winning the other two. Respectively the Jackrabbits are the #1 seed, while the Bison are the #2 seed. The likelihood of one of them winning is high, as inconsistency affects the rest of the field. The Jackrabbits are relatively hot, winning their last 12 of 14 games. Meanwhile, the Bison finished the season winning their last 7 of 9 games. Clearly, the Bison are missing ex star player Taylor Braun, who helped elevate the program and pull off a big upset over Oklahoma in last’s years NCAA tournament. But, Lawrence Alexander has improved his game, trying to fill in the void left by Braun. The Jackrabbits also haven’t been the same either since their star guard and current NBA player Nate Wolters departure after the 2012-2013 season, but are back on this rise this season.

I’m going to predict that the South Dakota St. Jackrabbits win the Summit League tournament. I like how they tested themselves out of conference playing the likes of the Northern Iowa Panthers and Utah Utes, doing fairly well despite losing. They have been the most consistent team in this league and despite starting out conference play 0-2, mostly due to playing those two powerhouses back to back, the Jackrabbits bounced back strong. I like a hot team and that’s why I’m siding with the Jackrabbits (Man that’s fun to say)!
