America East Tournament Prediction

The America East tournament semifinals begins with a pair of games; the #3 Stony Brook Seawolves at #2 Vermont Catamounts and #4 New Hampshire Wildcats at #1 Albany Great Danes. Both games take plays at the higher seeds campus, which is a big advantage for the Albany Great Danes, who will have home court advantage throughout. And there is no doubt that they will reach the finals, however the other matchup between the Seawolves and Catamounts is an interesting one. I say that because for the longest time, both these teams have some great battles, but the Seawolves have always struggled at the Patrick Gymnasium in Burlington Vermont. In fact, this year alone, the Catamounts have swept the Seawolves. But, I always say that the third game is always the toughest because of the familiarity of playing them. If they can find a way to win, the Seawolves would be in the America East tournament the last four of five years. However, they have still yet to win and punch the program’s first ticket into the NCAA tournament.

As for a prediction, I’m in a predicament between the Seawolves and Great Danes. I think Albany is clearly the better team and certainly one of the hottest teams heading into the tournament, winning their last 17 of 18 games. However, the Seawolves have made a knack of stopping streaks, not only defeating the Great Danes, but also defeating the undefeated and ranked Washington Cougars earlier in the season. Perhaps, the biggest win in the program’s history and certainly the best of any America East team. How about this, I’m rooting for the Seawolves because I can’t imagine making the conference tournament finals the last four of five years, to be one game away and just lose. It would be nice to see new blood in the NCAA tournament, but I think that the Albany Great Danes will win the America East tournament for the third consecutive year.
