The Big Ten tournament begins today in what should be an exciting few days to come. However, the bottom dwellers start us off with the 12th seeded Nebraska Corhuskers against the 13th seeded Penn St. Nittany Lions. I’ve got to admit, the Cornhuskers to be where they are is a shock. This team was in the AP’s preseason rankings and rightfully so. Terran Petteway and Shavon Shields are top notch players, it just doesn’t make sense how bad they are and heading into this tournament have lost eight games in a row. On the other end, the Nittany Lions almost came into this with a seven game losing streak, but instead pulled out a shocking road win over the Minnesota Gophers to end the skid. The Nittany Lions probably wish they could play more non-conference games, as they were 12-1 before conference play began.
As for the prediction, I’m going with the Maryland Terrapins. I love the trio of Dez Wells, Melo Trimble and Jake Layman. I think those guys are big time players and have carried the Terrapins in a season where they weren’t expected to be this good, especially with a bunch of players transferring from the team before the season began. However, they gelled and are the 8th ranked team in the nation. The only problem this team has, is playing on the road and that’s where four of their five losses happened. They have won their last seven games, including three on the road (albeit barely) and took down the Wisconsin Baders (Solid Win). With that said, I think we get a rematch of the Wisconsin Badgers and Maryland Terrapins, which would be a hell of a game. I love the way the Terrapins are playing right now and I have them winning the Big Ten tournament.
