Conference USA Tournament Prediction

The Conference USA tournament is underway, with an awesome finish in the first of four games today. The 10th seeded FIU Golden Panthers upset the 7th seeded UTSA Roadrunners in a buzzer beating three, which only exemplifies why March is truly madness. The Golden Panthers will go on to face the 2nd seed UTEP Miners. As I write this as well, the 6th seeded Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders knocked off 11th seeded Charlotte 49ers by only 3 points. The Blue Raiders now matchup against the 3rd seeded Old Dominion Monarchs. So, two games in the books and two more to go. We got the 5th seeded Western Kentucky Hilltoppers taking on the 12th seeded Marshall Thundering Herd, winner to face the 4th seeded UAB Blazers. Lastly, the 8th seeded North Texas Mean Green take on the 9th seeded Rice Owls, with the winner to face the top seeded Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.

Before I make my prediction, I must admit that top five teams in Conference USA have a legitimate chance to win this tournament. I don’t believe one team is more dominant over the other and I think we are in for competitive tournament. The prediction though and this is tough, I’m going with the Old Dominion Monarchs. They finished strong, with six straight wins, including beating the top seeded Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. They have also impressed me in their non conference schedule, taking down the Richmond Spiders, VCU Rams, LSU Tigers and Georgia St. Panthers. I think they are battle tested and on the right side of the conference to make run at this thing. With that said, the Monarchs will run the table and win the Conference USA tournament.
