The first round is underway, with one result already in the books. The 9th seeded Air Force Falcons were able to dispose of the 8th seeded New Mexico Lobos and now will face the top seeded Boise St. Broncos. At the moment, the last game in the first round has the 7th seeded UNLV Rebels up on the 10th seeded Nevada Wolf Pack, with the winner advancing to play the 2nd seeded San Diego St. Aztecs. This is another tough contest to call, as the Colorado St. Rams and Boise St. Broncos really improved this season to challenge the San Diego St. Aztecs. The Rams who were ranked earlier in the season, have split wins with the top seeded Boise St. Broncos and second seeded San Diego St. Aztecs. However, the Broncos have defeated the Aztecs twice and are streaking towards the finish. It definitely in my opinion will come down to those three teams, as the Wyoming Cowboys was once high in my books until the late season tumble.
As for the prediction, I’m siding with the Boise St. Broncos. As I mentioned before, they are streaking right now, winning their last 14 of 15 games. Oddly the only loss came on the road to the Fresno St. Bulldogs, but I’ll give them a pass. I also would like to add that the Broncos are finally ranked and rightfully so. It’s funny looking back too, as they were on a four game losing streak, including 0-3 to start conference play. However, they turned it around in an unimaginable way and have been doing it without their second leading scorer and senior Anthony Drmic (out for season). The Broncos are clicking, the chemistry is on point and Derrick Marks is playing at an extremely high level. With that said, I’m taking the Broncos to win the Mountain West tournament.
