The second round of March Sadness has been completed with some interesting results. I apologize in advance if no one digs this, as I’ll be getting right back into the NCAA Tournament real soon. Enjoy!
#1 Stenson Hatters (9-22) vs. #9 UMBC Retrievers (4-26)
The Stenson Hatters absolutely destroyed the UMBC Retrievers, building an early 17 point advantage at the end of the first half. It only got worse from there, thanks to game high 20 assists and 42 rebounds. Divine Miles led all scorers with 16 points, with Angel Rivera and Grant Lozoya chipping in 13 points. There’s not much left to write, as the Hatters will now take on…
#4 Savannah St. Tigers (9-22) vs. #12 Mississippi Valley St. Delta Devils (6-26)
The Mississippi Valley St. Delta Devils kept the Cinderella run alive, defeating the 4th ranked Savannah St. Tigers. The Delta Devils got up in the first half by 11 points and never looked back. They also forced a game high of 20 turnovers and cashed in 16-17 from the free throw line. The Tigers offensively put up good numbers, but the turnovers and fouls plagued them. The Delta Devils had four scorers in double digits, including a game high 15 from Jordan Washington, which proved to be too much for the Tigers. The Delta Devils are game from the Finals, but will have to take on the top seeded Stenson Hatters to get there.
#2 Morgan St. Bears (7-24) vs. #7 UT-Pan American Broncs (10-21)
In a buzzer beater thriller, the UT-Pan American Broncs were able to upset 2nd seeded Morgan St. Bears. The Broncs used four double digit scorers to overcome a game high of 16 turnovers to squeak this one out. They notably were 46% from the field and 83% from the free throw line, which definitely aided them to victory. The Bears were led by Cedric Blossom and Blake Bozeman, who come combined for 31 points. Bozeman actually put the Bears in the lead with a clutch basket with four seconds, however the Broncs Andreas Bigum would make the biggest shot (his only points of the night)…
#6 Central Connecticut St. Blue Devils (5-26) vs. #14 San Jose St. Spartans (2-27)
In out last game, the Central Connecticut St. Blue Devils survived a scare from the 14th seeded San Jose St. Spartans. The Blue Devils Matt Mobley was outstanding, scoring a game high of 21 points. A few other Blue Devils are to be noted, as Faronte Drakeford chipped in 17 points, Khalen Cumberland scored 14 and Brandon Peel pulled down a game high of 14 rebounds. The Blue Devils used an 18-23 free throw advantage to lay aid to victory. The Spartans Rashad Muhammad and Darryl Gaynor II combined for 29 of the 60 points scored. That was about all for the Spartans, as there potential Cinderella run ends. The Blue Devils now pace the 7th seeded UT-Pan American Broncs in a showdown to get to the finals.
