At-large Bid By Conference: Big East Conference

As we draw closer to March Madness, I can’t help but to analyze each conference for teams either worth an At-large bid or one whom is on the bubble. Here, I examine the Big East Conference, which according to KenPom is the 3rd best conference. I think while this conference no doubt harbors some solid teams, it also might be harboring some not as good as advertised teams. I mean, I couldn’t comprehend why the Villanova Wildcats were the number one team last week, especially when the Kansas Jayhawks were beating Elite 8 quality teams. Anyways, expect a good amount of At-large teams to come out of the Big East Conference.

Best Teams: Villanova Wildcats, Xavier Musketeers, Seton Hall Pirates, Creighton Bluejays, Butler Bulldogs, Providence Friars

At-large: Villanova Wildcats, Xavier Musketeers, Seton Hall Pirates

On The Bubble: Creighton Bluejays, Butler Bulldogs, Providence Friars

Note: No questions about it, the Villanova Wildcats and Xavier Musketeers are locks to be in the NCAA tournament. The Seton Hall Pirates are a lock in my mind, as a late surge within conference play has really helped add a ton of quality wins. Anything but an At-large would be criminal at this point for the Pirates. As for the Creighton Bluejays, Butler Bulldogs and Providence Friars, they aren’t too far off. The Bulldogs are teetering the line of being on the bubble or an At-large team, as inconsistency within conference has been creating this roller coaster of season. The Bluejays have two big road games on their schedule, if they win them, they are an At-large team (It’s simple as that). The Friars have really fallen off and are in desperate need of a winning streak. I think their remaining schedule helps, but they will need to do some damage within the Big East Conference tournament to be considered.
