America East Conference Tournament Predictions

The first round of the America East Conference tournament begins today! The Albany Great Danes look to represent the America East Conference for the fourth consecutive year, which I can definitely see happening. The only real threat to the Great Danes from repeating are the Stony Brook Seawolves, who will have home court advantage throughout, pending they continue to win of course. However, the Seawolves have been to America East Conference Finals four of the last five years and have yet to punch their first ticket to the NCAA Tournament. Is this the year or do they falter once again? Anyways, the America East Conference Tournament schedule are as follows…

Quarterfinals: March 2 (ESPN3)
Game 1: No. 8 UMBC Retrievers at No. 1 Stony Brook Seawolves
Game 2: No. 7 Hartford Hawks at No. 2 Albany Great Danes
Game 3: No. 6 Maine Black Bears at No. 3 Vermont Catamounts
Game 4: No. 5 Binghamton Bearcats at No. 4 New Hampshire Wildcats

Semifinals: March 7 (ESPN3)
Game 5: No. 4 at No. 1 (reseeded)
Game 6: No. 3 at No. 2

Championship: Mar. 12 (ESPN2)
Game 7: No. 2 at No. 1

Prediction: At last year’s America East Conference Tournament Finals, the Stony Brook Seawolves had a five point lead against the Albany Great Danes with one minute and thirty three seconds to go. Seawolves superstar Jameel Warney would step to the free throw line for two shots, both in which he missed. The unraveling of the Seawolves would begin and with around 4 seconds left, Albany’s Peter Hooley would finish the job with a rainbow of a three pointer that sinked in with 1.6 seconds remaining. It proved to be the game winner and helped Albany reach the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season. Moments like this, the finals failures in four of the last five seasons, the fact that the Seawolves have three solid seniors is all fuel to the fire. All that fuel combined with home court advantage and Jameel Warney is enough for me to think that this is the year the Seawolves punch their first ticket to NCAA Tournament.
