Patriot League Tournament Predictions

I missed the first round of the Patriot League tournament, but neither of the Holy Cross Crusaders and Navy Midshipmen whom won tonight are going to be my predicted winner. Although, when you try and make predictions for the bottom dweller conferences, it can be wide open. According to KenPom, out of the 32 other conferences, the Patriot League ranked 26th in home win percentage (53.3%). In other words, this tournament is wide open. The conference tournament schedule are as follows…

Opening Round: March 1 (PatriotLeague.tv)
Game 1: No. 9 Holy Cross Crusaders 72, No. 8 Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds 67
Game 2: No. 10 Lafayette Leopards 70, No. 7 Navy Midshipmen 78

Quarterfinals: March 3 (PatriotLeague.tv)
Game 3: No. 9 Holy Cross at No. 1 Bucknell Bison
Game 4: No. 5 Colgate Raiders at No. 4 Army Black Knights
Game 5: No. 6 American University Eagles at No. 3 Boston University Terriers
Game 6: No. 7 Navy at No. 2 Lehigh Mountain Hawks

Semifinals: March 6 (CBSSN)
Game 7: No. 4 at No. 1
Game 8: No. 3 at No. 2

Championship: March 9 (CBSSN)
Game 9: No. 2 at No. 1

Prediction: As I alluded to before, this is a wide open tournament. Not only is the home win percentage low, but the fact that the best overall team record wise was the Army Black Knights at 18-12 (60%). The same Black Knights that are tied with four other teams in conference, with a 9-9 record. Anyways, I think the safe bet is that the Bucknell Bison will win the Patriot League tournament. They have the easiest path to the finals and have protected their home court in conference play the best with a 7-2 record. While I think the Lehigh Mountain Hawks can spoil the number one overall Bucknell Bisons, the road to get to the finals is much more difficult. If they had C.J. McCollum I wouldn’t think twice, but they don’t…and I only brought that up as a shout out to one of my favorite collegiate and NBA player. In short, look for the Bucknell Bison to be representing the Patriot League.
