As we draw closer to March Madness, I can’t help but to analyze each conference for teams either worth an At-large bid or one whom is on the bubble. Here, I examine the Big West Conference, which according to KenPom is the 14th best conference. There are few teams I like here and could see being a potential problem for the big dogs in the NCAA Tournament.
Best Teams: Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, UC Irvine Anteaters, Long Beach St. 49ers
On The Bubble:
Note: If the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors didn’t drop the ball at home against the UC Riverside Highlanders, I would of had them on the bubble (On the very end). They’ve had a great season and nearly knocked off the number one ranked team at the time, but they obviously lack the quality wins to even be considered. However, if they can get into the big dance, I have no doubt they will be a handful for any team. Even the UC Irvine Anteaters could be a problem, like they were last year when they almost knocked off the Louisville Cardinals in the NCAA Tournament. I also like the Long Beach St. 49ers, as they really went for it in their non-conference schedule. In fact, it was the number one ranked non-conference schedule, so…they are pretty battle tested i’d say.
