As we draw closer to March Madness, I can’t help but to analyze each conference for teams either worth an At-large bid or one whom is on the bubble. Here, I examine Conference USA, which according to KenPom is the 21st best conference. It’s pretty sad, given that Conference USA used to be spotlighted by the Memphis Tigers. Of course, the Tigers left the conference at the conclusion of the 2013-2014 season for the American Athletic Conference. The Tulsa Golden Hurricanes would join them after the 2014-2015 season, which continued the downward spiral of the conference. There are a some good teams, but really only one in particular I’m excited about if they win the Conference USA Tournament…UAB Blazers
Best Teams: UAB Blazers, Marshall Thundering Herd, Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, Old Dominion Monarchs, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
On The Bubble:
Note: I actually like the Louisiana Bulldogs, but they have been gutted on the road in conference play to some terrible teams. How about the Marshall Thundering Herd who entered conference play with a 4-9 record…and right now are tied for second in the conference with a 11-5 record. To spotlight Conference USA like the Memphis Tigers always did, the team that needs to win the conference tournament is the UAB Blazers, who I’ll be talking about in a different article (wink, wink).
