Summit League Tournament Predictions

The Summit League Tournament begins today with a pair of games, as oddly the No. 1 IPFW Mastodons take on the No. 8 South Dakota Coyotes and the No. 2 South Dakota St. Jackrabbits battle the No. 7 Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. I say oddly because I don’t recall any tournament that has the two top seeded teams play before the others. It’s usually the other way around, but whatever. When I think of the Summit League, I recall Ben Woodside. He was one of my favorite collegiate players to watch and wasn’t really known until he was under the bright lights of the NCAA Tournament. But Anyways, the Summit League Tournament schedule are as follows…

Quarterfinals: March 5 (MidcoSN/ESPN3)
Game 1: No. 8 South Dakota Coyotes vs. No. 1 IPFW Mastodons
Game 2: No. 7 Oral Roberts Golden Eagles vs. No. 2 South Dakota State Jackrabbits

Quarterfinals: March 6 (MidcoSN/ESPN3)
Game 3: No. 5 North Dakota State Bison vs. No. 4 IUPUI Jaguars
Game 4: No. 6 Denver Pioneers vs. No. 3 Omaha Mavericks

Semifinals: March 7 (MidcoSN/ESPN3)
Game 5: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 3
Game 6: Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 4

Championship: March 8 (ESPN2)
Game 7 Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 6

Prediction: This comes down to the IPFW Mastodons and the South Dakota St. Jackrabbits in my opinion. I think the Omaha Mavericks are good, especially their offense, but their just too inconsistent to pick. The Mastodons have had a great season, but it’s a little worrisome that they played pretty much nobodies in their non-conference schedule and got swept by the IUPUI Jaguars. Also their defense is a huge question mark, something that the Jackrabbits play better. The Jackrabbits also have a solid offense and I like their more complete game to get the job done and represent the Summit League in the NCAA Tournament.
