As we draw closer to March Madness, I can’t help but to analyze each conference for teams either worth an At-large bid or one whom is on the bubble. Here, I examine the Mid-American Conference, which according to KenPom is the 13th best conference. The MAC has been rather competitive this year, with really only the Akron Zips (13-5 conference record) somewhat breaking away from the pack. They even got some love from the AP this week with a few votes in the rankings.
Best Teams: Akron Zips, Ohio Bobcats, Kent St. Golden Flashes, Buffalo Bulls, Central Michigan Chippewas, Ball St. Cardinals
On The Bubble:
Note: The Zips might of gotten some AP votes, but their best wins are against the Arkansas Razorbacks and Iona Gaels. That’s not enough to even be considered on the bubble, especially considering the Zips are a mere 4-3 in their last seven games. The only way they’re getting into the NCAA Tournament is via the MAC Tournament. And if they do, I could envision them being a trendy upset pick.
