Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Predictions

The Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament begins today with a couple of barnburners (just kidding). The No. 13 Wake Forest Demon Deacons take on the No. 12 North Carolina St. Wolfpack, while the No. 14 Boston College Eagles face the No. 11 Florida St. Seminoles. The only team I’m interested in this opening round is the Seminoles, as they are a bubble team heading into the ACC tournament. Unfortunately, beating the Eagles won’t do anything for them, but a nice run in the ACC tournament could improve their chances of being an At-large. Also, it’s important to note that the Louisville Cardinals self imposed a postseason ban, so that’s why you won’t see them in the ACC, NCAA or any postseason tournament. Anyways, the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament schedule are as follows…

First Round: March 8 (ESPN2/ACC Network)
Game 1: No. 13 Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. No. 12 North Carolina State Wolfpack
Game 2: No. 14 Boston College Eagles vs. No. 11 Florida State Seminoles

Second Round: March 9 (all on ACC Network/ESPN/ESPN2)
Game 3: No. 9 Syracuse Orange vs. No. 8 Pittsburgh Panthers
Game 4: Winner Game 1 vs. No. 5 Duke Blue Devils
Game 5: No. 10 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. No. 7 Clemson Tigers
Game 6: Winner Game 2 vs. No. 6 Virginia Tech Hokies

Quarterfinals: March 10 (ESPN/ACC Network)
Game 7: Winner Game 3 vs. No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels
Game 8: Winner Game 4 vs. No. 4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Game 9: Winner Game 5 vs. No. 2 Virginia Cavaliers
Game 10: Winner Game 6 vs. No. 3 Miami Hurricanes

Semifinals: March 11 (ESPN Networks/ACC Network)
Game 11: Winner Game 7 vs. Winner Game 8
Game 12: Winner Game 9 vs. Winner Game 10

Championship: March 12 (ESPN/ACC Network)
Game 13: Winner Game 11 vs. Winner Game 12

Prediction: Regardless of the outcome in the ACC tournament, five teams are already locked in to make the NCAA Tournament. However and it’s subjective, I think the No. 11 Florida St. Seminoles, No. 9 Syracuse Orange, No. 8 Pittsburgh Panthers and No. 7 Clemson Tigers are on the bubble. Fortunately, either the Pittsburgh Panthers or Syracuse Orange are going to add a quality win that could propel them, as they face each other. The Tigers and Seminoles need the most work, so it be imperative that they make a deep run in the ACC tournament. As for a prediction, I’m going to side with the Virginia Cavaliers. They rank in the top 10 on both offense and defense and are heading in beating the North Carolina Tar Heels, Clemson Tigers and Louisville Cardinals. The Cavaliers also rank among the top teams in average offensive and defensive possession length, which tells you there is a lot of ball movement on offense and suffocation on defense. So, I got the Cavaliers to get it done in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
