Big Sky Conference Tournament Predictions

The Big Sky Conference Tournament starts up today with four games on slate. The only team worth watching from today’s games though, is last year’s Big Sky winner in the Eastern Washington Eagles. However, they haven’t been as good as they were last year and that’s because one of my favorite collegiate players in Tyler Harvey, unfortunately graduated. The Eagles still have a high powered offense, but absolutely no defense, which has led to to drop four straight. Anyways, the Big Sky Conference Tournament schedule are as follows…

Opening Round: March 8 (
Game 1: No. 9 Northern Colorado Bears vs. No. 8 Portland State Vikings
Game 2: No. 12 Southern Utah Thunderbirds vs. No. 5 North Dakota Fighting Hawks
Game 3: No. 10 Sacramento State Hornets vs. No. 7 Montana State Bobcats
Game 4: No. 11 Northern Arizona Lumberjacks vs. No. 6 Eastern Washington Eagles

Quarterfinals: March 10 (
Game 5: Winner Game 1 vs. No. 1 Weber State Wildcats
Game 6: Winner Game 2 vs. No. 4 Idaho State Bengals
Game 7: Winner Game 3 vs. No. 2 Montana Grizzlies
Game 8: Winner Game 4 vs. No. 3 Idaho Vandals

Semifinals: March 11 (
Game 9: Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 6
Game 10: Winner Game 7 vs. Winner Game 8

Championship: March 12 (ESPNU)
Game 11: Winner Game 9 vs. Winner Game 10
Prediction: This is the Weber St. Wildcats tournament to lose, as they pretty much dominated the Big Sky Conference (15-3). The Montana Grizzlies also fared well in the conference (14-4) and could be a threat given that they lost a close on to the Wildcats. Other than that, I find it a stretch to see anyone else winning. The Wildcats though are my pick to represent the Big Sky Conference, as they pretty much have an easy path to the finals. It’s just who they play in the finals that could make things interesting.
