As we draw closer to March Madness, I can’t help but to analyze each conference for teams either worth an At-large bid or one whom is on the bubble. Here, I examine the Missouri Valley Conference, which according to KenPom is the 12th best conference. Now, the automatic bid has already been determined, as the Northern Iowa Panthers claimed stake to that. They beat the Southern Illinois Salukis, Wichita St. Shockers and Evansville Purple Aces in the process. The question remains, is there going to be more than one team coming out of the Missouri Valley Conference?
Best Teams: Wichita St. Shockers, Evansville Purple Aces, Northern Iowa Panthers, Illinois St. Redbirds, Southern Illinois Salukis
On The Bubble: Wichita St. Shockers
Note: This is a tough one, as I really would love to see the Shockers in the NCAA Tournament. I think on any given night, the backcourt of Van Fleet and Baker can beat any team. Unfortunately though, their non-conference failures might haunt them when the selection committee decides their fate. It’s a shame that Van Fleet was injured early in the season and particularly during a stretch where they lost three games in a row. However, I consider them a bubble team due to their lack of quality wins. I hope I’m wrong though.
