Big East Conference Tournament Predictions

The Big East Conference Tournament starts up today with a couple of games on tap, as the No. 9 Depaul Blue Demons take on the No. 8 Georgetown Hoyas and the No. 10 St. John’s Red Storm faces the No. 7 Marquette Golden Eagles. The lucky winner of the Blue Demons and Hoyas will have to play the No. 1 Villanova Wildcats and the winner of the Red Storm and Golden Eagles will face the No. 2 Xavier Musketeers. In other words, it should be a short tournament for whomever wins today. I will say though, that I like the Golden Eagles team a lot and I guarantee they will be a force next season. They have no seniors, have a pair of 6-11 studs and had some success this season. Anyways, the Big East Conference Tournament schedule are as follows…

Opening Round: March 9 (FS1)
Game 1: No. 9 DePaul Blue Demons vs. No. 8 Georgetown Hoyas
Game 2: No. 10 St. John’s Red Storm vs. No. 7 Marquette Golden Eagles

Quarterfinals: March 10 (FS1)
Game 3: Winner Game 1 vs. No. 1 Villanova Wildcats
Game 4: No. 5 Butler Bulldogs vs. No. 4 Providence Friars
Game 5: Winner Game 2 vs. No. 2 Xavier Musketeers
Game 6: No. 6 Creighton Bluejays vs. No. 3 Seton Hall Pirates

Semifinals: March 11 (FS1)
Game 7: Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4
Game 8: Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 6

Championship: March 12 (FOX)
Game 9: Winner Game 7 vs. Winner Game 8

Prediction: The Big East is interesting to say the least. On one hand, I do thing that there are some good teams within, but on the other other I feel as if they might be overrated. For example, the No.1 Villanova Wildcats are 1-3 against the RPI Top 25, with the lone win coming against conference foe, the Xavier Musketeers. Speaking of which, the Musketeers are 2-1 against the RPI Top 25, but have the 117th best non-conference schedule. Also, the No. 3 Seton Hall Pirates are 1-3 against the RPI Top 25 and the No. 4 Providence Friars are 1-4 against the RPI Top 25. I don’t want to necessarily bash the Big East, but I’m just skeptical how good these teams really are. Anyways, I’m going to predict that the Xavier Musketeers get the job done. They have a top ranked offense and defense, a starting five with experienced players and coming in 5-1 in their six games.
