Big West Conference Tournament Predictions

on

The Big West Conference Tournament starts up today with all eight teams participating. I think this the only conference tournament to feature such, as usually the top teams have opening byes. It could be possibly due to the fact that the Cal St. Northridge Matadors self-imposed a postseason ban. However, the Big West Conference really comes down to the top three teams. The No. 1 Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are obviously the favorite, followed by the No. 2 UC Irvine Anteaters and No. 3 Long Beach St. 49ers are both capable of winning the Big West Conference Tournament. If one of those three teams come out, I could see any of them causing some issues in the NCAA Tournament. Anyways,  the Big West Conference Tournament schedule are as follows…

Quarterfinals: March 10 (FS Prime Ticket)
Game 1: No. 5 UC Davis Aggies vs. No. 4 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos
Game 2: No. 8 Cal State Fullerton Titans vs. No. 1 Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
Game 3: No. 7 Cal Poly Mustangs vs. No. 2 UC Irvine Anteaters
Game 4: No. 6 UC Riverside Highlanders vs. No. 3 Long Beach State 49ers

Semifinals: March 11 (ESPN3, ESPNU)
Game 5: No. 4 vs. No. 1 (reseeded)
Game 6: No. 3 vs. No. 2

Championship: March 12 (ESPN2)
Game 7: Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 6

Prediction: I’m going to side with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, which I think is a tougher pick than say the UC Irvine Anteaters or Long Beach St. 49ers. The Rainbow Warriors are traveling to the tournament site in Anaheim and will most likely be in the underdog, as every team is from California except them. However, the Rainbow Warriors are a very experienced team and they have a sneaky good defense. I think they have the best starting five in the Big West Conference and let’s not forget, this is the same team that nearly beat the Oklahoma Sooners when they were ranked number one. So, Go Rainbow Warriors!
