Western Athletic Conference Tournament Predictions

The Western Athletic Conference Tournament begins today with three games on tap. I actually believe that WAC is starting to gain some traction, as the Grand Canyon Antelopes have injected some competition. Unfortunately though, since they are a relatively new team to Division I, they have to wait until 2017-2018 to become eligible. That doesn’t take away their successful season in which they finished with a 25-6 record and beat the likes of the San Diego St Aztecs, Houston Cougars and New Mexico St. Aggies. The Cal st. Roadrunners have been competitive within conference, but the Aggies swept them. Anyways, the Western Athletic Conference Tournament schedule are as follows…

Quarterfinals: March 10 (WAC Sports Network)
Game 1: No. 5 UMKC Kangaroos vs. No. 4 Utah Valley Wolverines
Game 2: No. 7 Chicago State Cougars vs. No. 2 Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners
Game 3:
No. 6 Texas-Pan American Broncs vs. No. 3 Seattle Redhawks

Semifinals: March 11 (WAC Sports Network)
Game 4: Winner Game 1 vs. No. 1 New Mexico State Aggies
Game 5: Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 3

Championship: March 12 (ESPNU)
Game 6: Winner Game 4 vs. Winner Game 5

Prediction: If the Grand Canyon Antelopes were eligible, then I’d have a debate about this. But, there not and the only team really worth mentioning is the New Mexico st. Aggies. They’ve won the WAC for the last four years and I can’t see them not making that streak five years in a row. The Aggies haven’t had the best of season, but they tested themselves against some stiff competition. They do have a top ranked defense, but I wouldn’t take divulge into that so much, as playing in the WAC probably really helped that. Anyways, this is the Aggies tournament to lose, as only the Cal St. Roadrunners offer them any type of competition.
