As we draw closer to March Madness, I can’t help but to analyze each conference for teams either worth an At-large bid or one whom is on the bubble. Here, I examine the Mountain West Conference, which according to KenPom is the 10th best conference. I must say though, the MWC has been a disappointment this season. Normally, there are several teams in the discussion of being NCAA Tournament bound, this year I don’t think that’s the case. The New Mexico Lobos are having a down season, the San Diego st. Aztecs have only excelled during conference play, the Boise St. Broncos have been very inconsistent, the UNLV Runnin Rebels fell off the face of the earth when conference play began, etc…
Best Teams: San Diego St. Aztecs, Fresno St. Bulldogs, Boise St. Broncos
On The Bubble: San Diego St. Aztecs
Note: The Mountain West Conference Tournament is currently still being played, so no automatic bid has been awarded. The San Diego St. Aztecs are currently on my bubble, as their non-conference failures haunt. They almost escaped that notion, but the somewhat recent loss to the Boise St. Broncos at home hurts. However, I’m not going to deny that they’ve been incredible in conference, but I’m also not going to deny that I don’t think it means as much as would of last year. The MWC is not the same, there just isn’t enough quality teams to well, give you quality wins. I think it would be in the Aztecs best interest to win the MWC tournament and not have to worry about their name getting called on Sunday.
