As we draw closer to March Madness, I can’t help but to analyze each conference for teams either worth an At-large bid or one whom is on the bubble. Here, I examine the Southland Conference, which according to KenPom is the 29th best conference. There’s only two teams worth mentioning, are the same two who will play each other today in the Southland Conference Tournament Finals. It’s the number one seeded Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks and the number two seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders. After that, it’s a whole bunch of terrible teams.
Best Teams: Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders
On The Bubble: Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks
Note: The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks are riding a nations best 19 game win streak, as they’ve dominated conference play. In fact, they are undefeated since conference play began and are the only team to have done such this season. As far as being a bubble team, it’s all because of their win streak. They have no quality wins what so ever, with their best wins coming over the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders. After that, the Texas Southern Tigers? So, it would be wise for the Lumberjacks to get the job tonight because the NIT awaits if not.
