As we draw closer to March Madness, I can’t help but to analyze each conference for teams either worth an At-large bid or one whom is on the bubble. Here, I examine the Southwestern Athletic Conference, which according to KenPom is just about the worst conference. With only three of the ten teams having an overall record above .500, it’s hard to take it seriously. I’d like to give credit though to the Texas Southern Tigers for their non-conference schedule. Absolutely no home games, a few neutral, but mostly all on the road against several tough teams.
Best Teams: Texas Southern Tigers, Alcorn St. Braves, Southern Jaguars, Jackson St. Tigers
On The Bubble:
Note: The SWAC: When your conference leader goes 1-11 in non-conference play. The SWAC: When your second best conference team goes 2-9 during their non-conference schedule, with two wins over Division II schools. Which slogan is better?
