As we draw closer to March Madness, I can’t help but to analyze each conference for teams either worth an At-large bid or one whom is on the bubble. Here, I examine the Summit League, which according to KenPom is the 15th best conference. I must say, I enjoyed some of the Summit League teams this season. In particular, the South Dakota St. Jackrabbits, the IPFW Mastodons and even the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks. Both the Mastodons and Mavericks made concerted efforts in their non-conference schedule to play some top notch teams on the road. The Mastodons came out with more success, but the Mavericks were always in close games (5 point loss @ Colorado Buffaloes). In fact, of the Mavericks thirteen losses this season, only two were by double digits (11,12).
Best Teams: South Dakota St. Jackrabbits, IPFW Mastodons, Nebraska Omaha Mavericks, North Dakota St. Bison
On The Bubble:
Note: The South Dakota St. Jackrabbits locked up the automatic bid in the Summit League already, as they beat the North Dakota St. Bison to do such. And while I spotlighted the success of the IPFW Mastadons and Nebraska Omaha Mavericks, neither are bubble worthy. However, I think the IPFW Matadons have a good case of being in the NIT.
