At-large Bid By Conference: Western Athletic Conference

on

As we draw closer to March Madness, I can’t help but to analyze each conference for teams either worth an At-large bid or one whom is on the bubble. Here, I examine the Western Athletic Conference, which according to KenPom is the 26th best conference. I actually think this is a bogus ranking, although it could be because they only have eight team in their conference. The WAC has three good teams in the New Mexico St. Aggies, Cal St. Bakersfield Roadrunners and Grand Canyon Antelopes. Unfortunately since the Antelopes joined Division I in 2014, per NCAA rule, they have to wait four years to become eligible (2017-2018). However, this season they have proved to be a threat in a in a conference heavily dominated by the New Mexico St. Aggies.

Best Teams: New Mexico St. Aggies, Grand Canyon Antelopes, Cal St. Bakersfield Roadrunners

At-large:

On The Bubble:

Note: The Western Athletic Conference Tournament Finals are tonight, as the number one seeded New Mexico St. Aggies take on the two seeded Cal St. Bakersfield Roadrunners. It might of been the most obvious conference tournament finals to call, as like I mentioned the Antelopes are ineligible and the other five teams are hot garbage.  Did I mention that the Antelopes beat the San Diego St. Aztecs on the road and Houston Cougars on a neutral court? I think I’m just jazzed for them and competition to come in the WAC. A conference that could be renamed as the New Mexico St. Aggies, considering tonight they are looking to become the Western Athletic Conference Champions for the fifth consecutive season.
